Firstly, why is Italian wine the Best!


Simply put, Italians cook with heart and soul and have a focus on quality. It’s not just in the food, but wine too. When making wine, they use local grapes and a simple vinification process with little to no additives. Not only does this give for an authentic wine, it also has health benefits. Due to the lack of chemicals and nasties, it won’t leave you with a hangover!
 

Wine making dates back thousands of years in Italy. So it’s safe to say they know what they’re doing. It is now part of their culture, lifestyle & diet.


Italy has over 2000 different grape varieties. However only 350 are used for commercial wine.
 

Now, let’s get into the Wines!

 

Firstly, the must try Italian classics!


Chianti Classico, Brunello di Montalcino, Amarone, Barolo & Barbaresco.


These wines are Italia’s finest. If find yourself in Italy, be sure to try them all!


BUT, don’t forgot about Prosecco, Pinot Grigio & Soave.

 

THE Italian Wine Regions


Veneto – Northern Italy where you’ll also find Venice, Veneto is where Amarone & Prosecco are produced.

Tuscany – Home to Chianti Classico, Brunello di Montalcino, home to the charming city of Florence.

Piedmont – Also in Northern Italy, here you’ll find Barbera, Barbaresco & the home of the White Truffle.

Sicily – Sicily has many unique wines, the popular ones are Nero d’Avola & Grillo.

It’s a way to socialise. In case you haven’t noticed, Italians like to talk!


Pairs with pizza, pasta, meat & cheese. Italian wines are known for their high acidity, this acidity pairs well with food.
 

Lastly, wine is good for you! Wine is a natural fermentation of grapes. The organic compounds in wine act as a prebiotic and classify wine as a Digestivo.

More expensive doesn’t mean better! Don’t pass on cheap Italian wine.


Yes, more expensive Italian wines can be better, better grapes, better vinification process, better winery. However, cheap Italian wine can be just as good.

I know Italian Wine ‘seems’ complicated, but don’t be intimidated. At the end of the day, it is just fermented grape juice.
 

Don’t know which wine you’ll like. Start trying! You will quickly develop your palate and find which wines you like, and which ones you don’t. All Italian Wine is good wine, cheap or expensive, it’s all good stuff!
